The device automatically detects a power failure and switches to battery mode, recharging the battery when the power returns. 

So this device is, in effect, a freely configurable uninterruptible power supply consisting of an inverter and a built-in battery charger. Only one 24V battery (AGM) of the desired size needs to be connected to the device. The capacity (size) of the battery must be selected according to the desired battery life (battery run time).
