RC ACCUMULATOR
RC stands for radio-controlled model, i.e. a device that can be controlled by radio signal. Most transport vehicles have RC models, including boats, planes, helicopters, cars, rockets and trains. RC is not just an exciting hobby, it is also a serious technical sport, the main aim being to build a scaled-down replica of a vehicle so that it works. RC should not be confused with model making, where you also build a scale model of something, but you can't make it move. Most models are controlled by radio remote control, hence the name RC models.
WHAT TYPE OF BATTERIES ARE RECOMMENDED FOR RC MODELS?
Among the RC battery types, Lithium Polymer, or LiPo batteries have quickly become a big hit in the RC world, especially for airplanes and helicopters. The main features of RC LiPo batteries are that they are lightweight and have a high capacity, allowing a larger amount of energy to be stored in a smaller space. LiPo batteries are available in many sizes and shapes. These advantages are decisive for RC models. Electric planes and helicopters started to become more popular with the advent of RC battery technology.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NICD AND LIPO BATTERIES?
LiPo batteries contain volatile electrolyte that can catch fire or, in the worst case, explode, so safety precautions must be taken. The life of batteries is largely determined by their discharge, charging and, last but not least, their storage. Charging an RC battery requires a charger specifically designed for this purpose, but care must also be taken to ensure the correct voltage and cell count. For RC batteries, LiPo batteries are more expensive than NiCd batteries. While LiPo batteries have a cell voltage of 3.7 V, NiCd batteries operate at 1.2 V per cell. The NiCd battery is the oldest type, which is larger in size but relatively quick and easy to charge.
There are therefore 3 inconveniences that can reduce the life of a LiPo RC battery, one is temperature, the other is over-discharge and last but not least, proper cell voltage equalisation.
